Salary and taxation policy

The goal of the Association of Finnish Lawyers in respect of salary policy is to safeguard and improve the salary of its membership. The development of the income of lawyers, associates in law and notaries should be in line with the development of incomes in general.

The salaries of the membership should be based on the demanding nature of the work and the degree of responsibility, personal ability and the work performance. The Association of Finnish Lawyers draws special attention to the need to improve the salaries of young lawyers, associates in law and notaries, and in general of those in the lower salary brackets.

The Association of Finnish Lawyers has identified the need in taxation policy to lower the marginal tax rate as well as the need to shift the focus from the taxation of income to the taxation of consumption.

Labour markets

The Association of Finnish Lawyers closely monitors the labour markets for lawyers. The Association seeks to maintain a balance between the demand for and supply of the services of lawyers. The Association has commissioned several studies on the employment of lawyers. The Association also seeks to improve the labour market for associates in law and notaries.

The Association continues to ensure that a law degree is a qualification for all positions that primarily involve the consideration of legal matters. Monitoring the situation in the labour markets is one of the most important functions of the Association of Finnish Lawyers.

Development of law

The Association of Finnish Lawyers studies the development of legislation and seeks to rectify any deficiencies noted therein. The Committee on Legal Policy is responsible for the preparation and planning of matters related to legal and social policy.

The Association, as an organization representing lawyers in Finland, takes a position on a variety of issues and provides carefully considered expert views as a contribution to the public debate. The development of law is tied to efforts to achieve major goals in society.
